Methodology and editorial policy: how NoLanjam works

Who runs it

NoLanjam is a non-commercial, volunteer-run project. It takes no funding from any government body, political party or company, and carries no advertising. It is not an official Government of Tamil Nadu website and is not affiliated with any political party. Its aim is to understand citizens’ experiences, encourage transparency in public services and raise awareness.

What it collects

• The location you choose (district, taluk, area type), the department, the amount, what it was for, and the date it happened.
• Only if you type them: the officer’s designation, the officer’s name, your name and extra details. These are stored privately and are never shown publicly.

What it does not ask for

Aadhaar number, PAN, phone number, home address, bank account, email address or ID photographs. The IP address is not stored with a report.

How a report is handled

1. Every report starts as "pending" and is invisible to the public.
2. A moderator reads it and can approve, reject, flag or mark it as a possible duplicate.
3. A privacy-safe fingerprint helps moderators spot possible duplicates. A person reviews them; they are never rejected automatically.
4. Only these fields of an approved report become public: district, taluk, area type, department, date, amount, payment status and service category.

How the statistics are calculated

• "Reported amount" adds up the amounts marked as paid. Amounts that were requested but refused are shown separately.
• Several reports can describe the same event, so counts can be inflated.
• When there are too few reports, nothing is estimated.
• Publishing the figures is a separate decision made by the administrators. While it is switched off, the server hands out no figures at all.

Limitations

Corrections, removal requests and disputed reports

• To remove your report, write to us through the Contact page with the TNBC-… reference number shown after you submit.
• If a person or office believes information on this site is wrong, they can tell us through the Contact page and we will review it.
• No individual’s name is published. There is no public search by officer name and no leaderboard.

Editorial policy for the guides

• Guides are general information, not legal advice. Official sources (government websites, statutes) are listed at the end of each guide.
• Where a fee or time limit may change and we cannot be sure, we do not quote a figure and ask you to confirm on the official source.
• The "updated" date changes only when the content has actually been reviewed.
• Content is neutral. It does not support or attack any party or individual.
• If you find a mistake, tell us through the Contact page and we will correct it.
